Song: Halud Pakhi
Artist: Cactus
From: Cactus (1999)

View: {Chords} - {Strum & Analysis} - {Tabs} - {Plain Lyrics} - {Song & Videos}

Time Signature and Beat Pattern:
4/4 (slow), does not use off beats (starts from 1st beat) - (Time signatures explained)

Fundamental Chord Structure:
Basic chord progression: The chord structure is complex and varies from section to section. Verse : D-F#m-Em-(D-A) and chorus : D-G-A-D

Original scale: D major

Chords transposed a scale of C: Verse : C-Em-Dm-(C-G) and chorus : C-F-G-C (1 semitone below this scale)- (Transposition explained)

Roman numeral form notation: Verse : I-iii-ii-(I-V) and chorus : I-IV-V-I (modal progression) - (Roman numeral notation explained)

Strum Pattern:
Option 1: Fast strumming - |D_UD|DUDD| (or, less accurate - |D_UU|

Option 2: A better option will be to use the following strum-cum-arpeggio pattern (numbers indicate string number and plus means strummed together):
(root)>3>2>1>3>2>1 and repeat

Option 4: Play single down-strokes, broken chords or arpeggios.

(Explanation - 4 beats per meter; the stroke that is marked with a (') is played and muted; the beats in brackets are divided into subunits of equal duration as noted). (More on how to read strum patterns)

Between the meter chord changes do occur, especially at the ends of lines in the verses.

Playings Tips and Song Notes:
The chords are simple. Its a great exercise in practicing the chords in key of D major. Try singing along or playing along with the track to best guess the strum and chord positions. Try practicing arpeggios to this song - its just the right speed for beginners.

The song has a dreamy feel to it. Its one of those hits that propelled Cactus forward, way back when they started off.

The song is strongly reminiscent of the the grand old hit from the 60's - My Way (popularized by Frank Sinatra), possessing a similar chord structure, sine the jazz chords.

Difficulty: Beginner level

The chords for this song are D major, B minor, G major and A major.......E minor and F# minor dont match with the song even though they related to the D major scale...

Arindam Sarkarsaid...

Your progression works fine for the most part because mine uses relative minors. Em for G, F#m for A - keeps the feel mellow. As for the progression and the Bm, I think F#m sounds better.
